George Harrison vs. The Chiffions

George Harrison released "My Sweet Lord" in January 15, 1971, under Apple Label. The Chiffons released a song called "He’s So Fine" in 1962 and it moved under the Bright Tunes Music Corps Label in 1971. February 10, 1971 Bright Tunes filed a suit against George Harrison; it included Apple Records, BMI and Hansen Publications. The case waited to be heard for 5 years. in February 1976, the case was heard and Harrison's attorneys tried to prove the difference between the songs with little success. Harrison claimed that he did not know the melody of the Chiffons song. The judge didn't believe George Harrison and he was found guilty of “subconscious plagiarism” and a judgment was filed against him in the amount of $587,000.00. The full amount was paid and the judgment was dismissed in 1981.
